Equine Assisted Learning

Amanda works with her herd of horses to support clients of all ages in individual or group sessions to safely explore and support self-awareness and spiritual and emotional growth. At EQUINE CONNECTIONS, you get to share connection experiences with very generous horses who are brilliant teachers of their natural way of being. We support clients in a safe, inviting environment to come back to a healthier way of thinking and being in a relationship with themselves and others.

Why Horses

Horses Evoke Many Emotions

The horse can evoke many responses from a person, all of them useful in developing awareness. The horse is a beautiful animal that lives in the moment; he can teach us how to experience life, and he can reflect or model our behaviours. They provide the opportunity to learn about building positive relationships.

  • They mirror or model our behaviour, which teaches us about ourselves.
  • They are completely unbiased, non-judgemental companions.
  • Just the thought of a horse will evoke an emotional response in the human psyche.
  • They can move, touch and hold, in a way a human practitioner cannot.

Animal-Based Therapy Helps People Learn About Themselves

Animal-based therapy has been used for many years with great success in helping people learn about themselves. Equine-assisted learning incorporates the horse as a role model of life and how he responds to his environment in the here and now, without holding on to the baggage of the past. The horse will cause a person to experience a variety of different thoughts, feelings and emotions, many of which we have become numb or dull to.

EQUINE CONNECTIONS

How Do We Help People

Amanda Jenks-Whiteman of EQUINE CONNECTIONS in Waroona, WA, uses the Equine Psychotherapy Institute of Australia model to help people become aware of their true thoughts, feelings, and beliefs.

  • Awareness is the key part to living a fulfilling life.
  • As you become more aware of what is happening within, you will learn to respond rather than react so that you are better equipped to handle life and its effects upon you.
  • The EPI model utilises a combination of Gestalt, Somatic Experiencing and Mindfulness to help people uncover their authentic self.

What Do We Offer

Individual Sessions

At Equine Connections we understand that big groups can be overwhelming.

Whilst other equine based learning settings tend to be on a large scale we aim to keep our setting small and intimate.

We believe that each child , young person or adult should have a personlised and independent experience.

We aim to provide a relaxed , non-judgmental & safe environment away from pressures of everyday life.

If you would like more information please feel free to pop us a message.

Group Sessions

Small group sessions are offered to teens, corporate teams or other groups where you can learn the way of the horse over seven set sessions. It is a program designed to improve awareness so that people can develop a better understanding of themselves and others.

Retreats

Retreats are conducted 6 times per year and are aimed at groups of women looking to further their self-awareness, growth and personal development. There are three opportunities to join our 2 day retreats which are set in Herron in a lovely shared house on a 15 acre horse property.  Weekend 2 day retreats include accomodation on Friday and Saturday nights with healthy meals provided.  Sessions include equine-assisted learning, yoga, and meditation, with accommodation included in a supportive, relaxed environment.

One day retreats are also held in Waroona with the option of staying in an airbnb or other accomodation locally and taking time to explore local attractions such as Drakesbrook weir and Waroona Dam also an easy day trip to travel from Perth, Mandurah or the Southwest.
